This story is about Lauren and Tobias. They are both cops. He is a bit gruff around the edges. She is sweet and tough. Toughened because of the job, sweeter because she still believes in God and has faith. The plot line follows them trying to solve a crime but also about their faith. He isn't a believer. While they solved the one crime, they come to an impasse about their faith.
You can tell that there is a "before" in the story. That is not well explained. This story was not about how they got together.
You are left hanging at the end of the story. It just ended. While I know that leaving it hanging is a marvelous marketing gimmick, I don't like it as a reader. Leaving it hanging is not a HEA.
But I liked the story. I liked that I didn't have to worry about sexual content. I liked the banter between the 2 main characters.
I didn't like the alternating person in first person format. If you stopped reading in the middle of the chapter, I wasn't always able to just start reading again. Sometimes it was hard to tell who was speaking.
I would recommend the book though. I'll definitely check out the next in the series.
Good mix of relationships, crime and punishment and justice! You will like it if you like homicide/detective stories and suspense.
I enjoyed the suspense of how it kept the detectives on their toes.
The cover almost threw me off, as it reminded me of the "bodice rippers" my mom used to read, but after reading the description I figured I'd give it a try as I love a good mystery book. I was charmed by the switching of perspectives between the male and female leads, as it allows for better insight into both characters. The banter between the two was fun to read, even with some of the gravity of the topics they were discussing. All in all a good read, and I'm interested in checking out the sequels.
I am not a romance genre person, my preference is mystery, thrillers, supernatural and paranormal. However, Charlotte Raine has not ceased to amaze me with her writings. Although she runs the gamut in writing, her facts, ideas and story lines will keep you spell bound. She can write on any theme and nail it perfectly. I've read 8 or 9 of her books. Even her vampire serious; which vampire stories I am not too found of, are well worth the read. She holds your interest. As an author she would be highly recommended no matter what she wrote.
I absolutely loved this book 😊 i couldnt put it down and finished it in a day and a half. Cant wait to read the next one
